About the event

This workshop for Northern Zone Counselors provides participants with a variety of practical intervention strategies along with the cyclical nature of conflict. Based on the work of Nicholas Long, Fritz Redl and David Wineman techniques will be introduced that are short term in nature and are designed to prevent and address immediate classroom behavioral issues. Participants will develop a shared vocabulary and learn how to consciously prescribe interventions. They will also gain a thorough understanding of how factors such as: trauma, student behavioral motivation and student perceptions all influence students' abilities toward self-regulation and both behavioral and academic successes. In addition, through understanding and practice in conflict model de-escalation, they will learn how the way a person perceives, thinks and feels is manifested in their behavior evoking a response from an adult or child, which begins a cycle of escalation.
